Taking Up Space

This phrase has been swirling around in my head on and off for some time now. I have found myself meditating on and even whispering this, when I experience fear or discomfort specifically with my body and/or being in new environments. I distinctly remember having to convince myself that this is necessary. As a black woman in a larger body, I have at time been made to feel like I’m too much. In order to rewrite the narrative, I’ve had to commit to comfortably taking up space.

I realize it contradicts the inner most parts that are tightly woven to fear, rejection, and worthlessness. Taking up space is an act of rebellion for some. A commitment to being present and committed to ones purpose in life. To take up space is to unapologetically be about our fathers business.

As we move into this week and this new month lets consider taking an active role in walking in our God given purpose and occupying the very spaces he has given us dominion over.

I encourage you to take out your journals and allow yourself to explore this topic. What comes up for you? How can you take up space?

Mental Health Resources in Churches

Is this a thing? Should this be a thing? What are your thoughts? I’m wondering if churches and leaders need to be better prepared to address mental health needs of their members. Should this be referred out or service brought into the church house?

Many people view the church as a place of healing but are we comfortable with utilizing resources in the church or reaching out to spiritual leaders?

I’d love to hear your thoughts as I explore resource development and ways the bridge the gap between faith and mental health.

Leave me a comment! I look forward to reading your thoughts!

Find your focus in the New Year.

2021 has wrapped up and 2022 is unfolding🥳Many if you will begin by setting goals for the year in hopes of achieving them by December 31st. Whatever you have decided to accomplish this year, I pray you allow yourself to enjoy the journey. When you find your focus I encourage you too do a few things along the way.

1. Rest- Our greatest clarity come when we slowdown and take a moment to breath.

2. Laugh- It’s medicine for your soul, brings life to your relationships, and helps us move beyond disappointment.

3. Create- Make something! It’s what we are created to do.

4. Heal- It happens in layers and stages as we tend to every part of our being. See a therapist, journal, cry, talk, sing, play and move. Heal the mind, body, and soul!

I pray 2022 is more than you ever expected. Happy New Year
